Living with Conviction in a Culture That Profits from Outrage
Social media outrage may grab attention, but it rarely, if ever, produces righteousness. Together we’ll explore what it means to stay rooted in truth and reflect the character of Christ online and off.

Hi friends,
This week has felt heavy. I’ve been talking with friends and a lot of us are in the same place, still trying to process the tragedy from last week and looking at our country and world with new eyes. Some of what we see is encouraging…some, not so much. I feel that too. I don’t know how people are able to slip right back into the regular pace of life, offering thoughts and comments on everything so quickly. My brain and heart just can’t get there that fast. And that’s okay.
John 1:5 has been my verse this week: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” It’s comforting, but it’s also honest. I think we tend to look at this verse to see the good, the light that breaks through. But, my goodness, we have to remember that this light is surrounded by darkness. That light is shining in the middle of real darkness. Darkness we’d rather ignore, but it’s there. Just open today’s news or scroll your social feed. You’ll find it.
That’s where today’s show goes: into the hard reality of outrage posts, hate speech, free speech, and how social media profits off our anger. But it also goes into the hope that God gives us, even in the middle of all that noise and darkness.
Today’s episode:
💻 Why social media runs on outrage and why “rage pays.”
⚡ How anger online spills into real-life violence.
🕊️ What Charlie Kirk’s story shows us about both the danger and the hope.
🌱 And how God’s Word gives us a better way forward.
Come hang out and listen. My hope is that it gives you not just perspective, but also a little peace this week.
Have a blessed week,
Devin
Listen to this week’s Anchor Points
Short, devotional reflections that anchor our day in truth.
Seek Unity Without Losing Conviction – Oneness, not sameness. Disagreement doesn’t have to mean division.
When Faith Feels Like A Highlight Reel – Life isn’t an Instagram highlight reel. Christ meets us in the real, messy places and His light shines brightest in the dark.
What If You Got The Wrong Impression? – Headlines and hearsay turn people into caricatures. John 7:24 calls us to see with right judgment.
TRUTH IN
FAITH OUT
![]() | Truth In: Outrage might grow clicks and dollars, but it never grows righteousness. “because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.” – James 1:20 |
Faith Out: Before we post, share, or scroll, where are we most tempted to click or share out of anger and outrage? How is our online behavior shaping your heart? Wisdom is choosing words that heal instead of harm and stopping to examine our anger. It’s rooted in truth, firm yet steady…
That means we probably need to take some practical steps. So here are three challenges we can try together:
Curate your feed. Intentionally follow accounts that bring joy, wisdom, and beauty, not drama and a tunnel of outrage.
Practice the “slow share” rule. Wait 24 hours (okay, okay…30 min if you are so eager;)) before reposting anything that sparks outrage.
Open your Bible before you open your apps. Give God the first 10 minutes before giving your social feeds the next 10 hours.
