Quick Fix Culture: From E-Bikes to Ozempic, Why Slowing Down Matters
We chase faster results and easier fixes, but what if the things we’re trying to avoid are the very places where God wants to shape us?

Hi friends,
This week, I had two run-ins with e-bikes.
The first was after school, on my way to pick up my own kids. I was driving down a neighborhood street when this boy, maybe twelve, comes flying out in front of me on his electric bike. No helmet. Earbuds in. Popping wheelies and weaving back and forth across the road. With traffic on both sides.
When I got home, I started looking these things up: Class 1, Class 2, Class 3. Turns out Class 3 are the fastest e-bikes topping out at almost 30 miles an hour. And many of them are being ridden by kids who aren’t even old enough to drive. I thought, “How is this legal?” It seems unsafe on the road, but having them on bike paths with people walking dogs and pushing strollers doesn’t make sense either.
Then the next day at the gym, there it was. Another e-bike parked right outside. Now that I knew what to look for, I walked over to see if it had a class sticker. (It’s supposed to.) Nope. Nothing. Which of course made me wonder if it was even legal.
I’m torn. Part of me hates them. Too fast, too unsafe. But they look awesome! They look like so much fun. I kind of want one. 😊
Anyway, lots of great stories and conversations waiting for you this week. Hope you enjoy.
Have a blessed week,
Devin

💊 Main Story: The Pill for Every Problem. From Ozempic to “confidence pills,” quick fixes are everywhere. We’ll look at why we’re medicating more than ever and what we might be missing in the process.
🌿 The Bigger Lens: What if the things we’re trying to escape are the very places where God is doing His best work? We’ll talk about why peace doesn’t come from a faster life, but from a faithful one.

Listen to this week’s Anchor Points
Short, devotional reflections that anchor our day in truth.
The Bumpy Road - Sometimes God leads us down the rougher path, not to make life harder, but to shape our hearts through obedience. The smoother route may look easier, but the road filled with potholes often holds the greater lesson.
Stories Outside the Story - Like a game of telephone, truth can twist as it travels. From rumors about a runaway dog to the lies the serpent whispered in Eden, we’re reminded to go back to the source—to God’s Word—and listen for His voice above all others.
You’re Doing Better Than You Think - Compliments are like rain on dry ground, but we often brush them off because we don’t feel worthy. This week’s reminder: God sees your effort, your faith, and your heart. You are seen, valued, and loved—right where you are.
TRUTH IN
FAITH OUT
![]() | Truth In: We look for strength in fixing, managing, and speeding things up, but God says it’s found in returning and resting. Real peace doesn’t come from getting there faster; it comes from trusting the One who already knows the way. “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.” – Isaiah 30:15 |
Faith Out:
Before we reach for the next solution, another plan, another pill, another quick fix, ask, “Have I given God space to work here? And whose space is this? His or mine?”
Try this week’s slow-down challenge:
Start with stillness. Before scrolling, planning, or fixing, take 10 quiet minutes with God.
Let waiting do its work. Ask what He might be forming in you rather than what He’s withholding.
Resist the rush. Notice where you’re tempted to hurry healing or force outcomes, and hand that space back to Him.
💬 Question for you:
When life feels uncomfortable, what’s your first instinct? Do you try to fix it fast or bring it to God? And where might He be inviting you to slow down and trust Him instead of reaching for a quick fix?
