Standing Firm When the World Shifts Beneath Us

From Roblox lawsuits to a new film twisting the story of Jesus, this week we’re talking about how to stay grounded when culture blurs truth and how to keep our feet planted on the Rock when the world shifts beneath us.

Hi friends,

Last Friday, I took our kids and a few friends to the beach after school to check out the waves from the hurricane. It never made landfall but sent us some huge waves and left us a very messy beach. It was beautiful to watch and a little terrifying at the same time, knowing something so far out to sea could cause such havoc.

Being by the ocean is one of my favorite places to be. I usually find it relaxing and rejuvenating, but not always. Sometimes it’s unapproachable, unpredictable, and powerful. Kind of like our culture, isn’t it? Always shifting, always changing direction, and lately, it’s hard to tell which way things are going! There have been some of those unpredictable waters on the news front this week: a horror movie twisting the story of Jesus and lawsuits against the gaming company, Roblox exposing darkness in what’s supposed to be a kids’ game. It’s worse than I realized.

But even in the midst of all that movement, the shoreline doesn’t disappear, though it’s a little smaller than before from this storm. And the Rock is still there. Psalm 40:2 says, “He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.”

When the world feels unstable, when the waves rise and the noise grows louder, our faith keeps us steady. God doesn’t just rescue us; He reestablishes us. He fixes our footing.

That’s where today’s episode of The InSight Out Show takes us: learning how to stand firm when everything around us keeps shifting.

Have a blessed week,

Devin

Listen to this week’s Anchor Points

Short, devotional reflections that anchor our day in truth.

  • Diagnosis and Deeper Truth – We often find relief in naming what’s wrong, but sometimes our labels point to something deeper: the reality of our brokenness and our need for grace.

  • Thank You, Lord – Gratitude opens our eyes to God’s mercy. Let’s learn to thank Him not only for the sweet seasons but also in the bitter ones, trusting that both can grow us.

  • Cart Before the Horse – When we rush the process, we end up off balance. Proverbs 24:27 reminds us to put our work in order and build wisely from the ground up.

TRUTH IN

FAITH OUT

Truth In:

When everything feels uncertain, this verse reminds us that stability doesn’t come from circumstances, it comes from the One who steadies us. God doesn’t just pull us out of the mess; He plants us on solid ground so we can walk forward with confidence and peace.

He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.”

- Psalm 40:2

Faith Out:

When life or culture starts to feel unstable, what are you standing on? Are your feet planted in truth or are they shifting with the trends?

Here are three ways to practice looking deeper this week:

  • Check your footing. Before reacting, stop and ask: “Is what I’m standing on true or just familiar?”

  • Realign daily. Open God’s Word first, then open the world.

  • Stand firm, but steady. Bold faith isn’t necessarily loud; it’s anchored.
