The Storms Will Pass
Seeing today’s world through God’s eyes and living out our faith with clarity, courage, and hope.
LIFE IN THE ORDINARY
Hi friends…
Well, this week started out like a typical Florida morning: bright blue sky and absolutely gorgeous. The kind of morning that make you want to grab a beach chair, a good book, and head straight for the beach. Hard to make that happen on a weekday!
Instead, I took a work break and went for a run. My weather app said showers and maybe some thunderstorms would roll in after 3:15pm. Perfect. I’d be back in plenty of time. Or so I thought.
On my way home, that forecast showed up a little early. Thankfully, I was just moderately soaked.
But then, within minutes of getting inside, it turned into that full-on sideways rain, thunder, and lightning. Our poor sweet girl (dog) Annie bolted straight to her usual hideout in the laundry room. I turned the dryer on for her. Something about the hum makes her feel safe. She gets so scared during storms.
Then I stepped out back to catch it all on video. 60 mph winds and hail. Our stuff was everywhere. One casualty…a ceramic flower pot that I literally just put out last week.
And like all things, it passed. The sun came back out. Neighbors were floating down our flooded street on boogie boards before dinner (what we call minor flooding). Only in Florida.
Just another reminder that wild moments come, but calm always follows.
Hope your week holds more sunshine than storms and maybe a good story or two in the mix.
Devin
What if noticing someone was the most spiritual thing we did today?
In this episode, we trace the heartbreaking journey of Kyler Efinger and ask the question: Am I willing to stop and notice? When we look away from someone in need, something shifts. Not just in them, but in us.
Did You Know?
Imagine peeking inside a modest riverside home at Dura-Europos (modern-day Syria) circa AD 233, only to find its rooms quietly transformed into a place of worship. This unassuming dwelling, adapted by early believers, stands as the world’s oldest known “house church,” offering a rare, tangible glimpse into the very beginnings of Christian community life.

Remains of the Christian church with the western wall recently restored.
This Week’s Scripture:
Mark 4:39 (NIV) — “He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Peace! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.”
