What My Burned Flowers Taught Me About Life

It started with hydrangeas, but this week we’re also talking about midlife marriages under strain, a $10,000 class called “How to Steal”, and Florida’s push to roll back vaccine mandates. Together, these stories remind us how often we add too much and how God invites us to trust His timing.

Hi friends,

Our stepson just arrived this morning for a quick visit before heading off to France at the end of the month. He graduated college last year and is about to start teaching English overseas…his next big adventure! Hard to believe, because he still feels three years old to me. If you think of it, we’d love your prayers for our time together and for Christ to meet him in this new season. I’ll see if I can get a picture of him while he’s here to share with you.

I hope your week has given you a little space to breathe. If not, maybe this clip of our backyard visitors 🪶 will give you a moment to reset.

Today, we’re looking at stories that touch our lives in different ways. Each of them presses on our values and points us back to the same question: how do we walk with wisdom in a world that pushes us to want more? My hope is that these stories give you something to reflect on this week.

Today’s episode:

🌸 Hydrangeas that reminded me more isn’t always better.

💍 Midlife marriages and the rise of “menodivorce”.

🎓 A $10,000 college class on how to steal.

💉 Florida moving to roll back vaccine mandates.

Come hang out and listen.

Have a blessed week,

Devin

Listen to this week’s Anchor Points

Short, devotional reflections that anchor our day in truth.

  • When Your Boss Is Younger than You – Three simple words. A smile. A kind tone. With Christ behind them, everyday hellos become everyday mission work.

  • Say Hello and Mean It – Awkward power dynamics. Bruised pride. But God reminds us that service matters more than titles, ages, or ladders.

  • What Color Is Your Faith – Flames refine, in blue, yellow, and red. Wherever you stand in the fire, God is shaping you into something new.

TRUTH IN

FAITH OUT

Truth In: More doesn’t always mean better. Knowledge can tempt us to meddle, but wisdom teaches us to wait, trust, and let God’s design unfold.

“For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” – Proverbs 2:6

Faith Out: Before adding one more “fix,” let’s stop for just a moment. Ask: Am I improving what God already called good, or am I rushing His timing? True wisdom is learning to trust His slow, steady way of growth.

  • Whether it’s our schedule, our words, or our to-do list, stop and ask: Am I adding what God didn’t call for?

  • Each morning, invite God to guide our choices: Lord, help us wait on Your timing instead of rushing our own.

  • Take five minutes a day to thank God for something beautiful happening in our lives as it already is…without improving it, changing it, or making it “better.”
